SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Sophomore setter Callie Bivings recorded her first career double-double, but the Georgia Tech volleyball team fell to the Syracuse Orange, 3-0, Friday at the Carrier Dome. With the loss, the Jackets fall to 7-14 on the season and 1-8 in ACC play, while the Orange improves to 9-12 overall and 4-5 in league play.

Bivings tallied 26 assists and a career-best 11 digs for her double-double. Senior Jennifer Percy led the team with 13 kills and junior Courtney Felinski added 12. Freshman London Ackermann led the back row with 12 digs.

Georgia Tech took more swings on the night, but was not as accurate as Syracuse with 18 attacking errors compared to the Orange’s 11. The Jackets had trouble at the serving line, totaling nine service errors to Syracuse’s five, along with eight serve receive errors.

The first set was closely contested through the first half. Syracuse broke a 10-10 tie on a kill by Lindsay McCabe and held the lead for the remainder of the game, winning 25-18. The teams were almost even in every category except the Orange had three more kills and three less attacking errors, out-hitting Tech .340 to .204.

The Yellow Jackets and Orange battled for every point in the second frame and neither team led by more than three points. Although Syracuse only had nine kills, the Orange’s blocking was on point with six of their 10 blocks in the match coming in the second game.

The Orange didn’t lose momentum after the break. Syracuse took the lead 7-6 in the third set and never looked back, widening its lead to 15-9 on a block by McCabe and Erica Handler. The Jackets could not get into a rhythm and fell 25-19.

Georgia Tech is back in action Sunday at Boston College. The Jackets and Eagles square off at 12 p.m. in Power Gym.  Live stats are available via GameTracker and subscribers can was the match on All-Access.
