CHAPEL HILL, N.C. –
Seniors Fatmata Fofanah and Shantia Moss placed first and second in the women’s 60-meter hurdles prelims to lead the 23rd-ranked Georgia Tech women’s track & field team on the second day of the 2008 Atlantic Coast Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships at the Eddie Smith Field House/Belk Track on the University of North Carolina campus.
Fofanah crossed the line first with an NCAA Championship automatic qualifying time of 8.07 seconds. Moss placed second with her own NCAA Championship automatic qualifying time of 8.14. In the 200-meter dash, Moss just missed qualifying for tomorrow’s finals after finishing in ninth place and just .002 seconds behind Melissa Council of WakeForest.
In the women’s 400-meter dash prelims, sophomore Tiffany Grant finished fourth with a time of 56.00. Grant will compete in tomorrow’s finals beginning at 12:40 p.m.
Freshman Joanna Wright placed eighth in the women’s pole vault to score her first career point at the ACC Championships with a mark of 11 feet, 11 ¾ inches.
The championship meet will resume Saturday with the women’s shot put and triple jump at 11 a.m. Fans can follow a full day of action via live stats provided by flash results. Friday’s events will also be available to view on ACC Select.
