CLEMSON, S.C. – Senior Andriane Lapsley clocked a personal-record and NCAA Provisional time of 7.39 in the preliminaries of the 60-meter dash and junior Fatmata Fofanah clocked a lifetime-best and NCAA Provisional time of 8.27 in the prelims of the 60-meter high hurdles to lead the Georgia Tech men’s and women’s track and field teams at the Tiger Classic on Friday night.
Redshirt freshman Andy Powlen led the men’s track and field team with a second-place finish in the shot put, finishing with an indoor personal-record mark of 56 feet, 4 ¾ inches.
Senior walk-on Jewel Welch tallied a second-place finish in the women’s shot put with a lifetime-best mark of 45 feet, ¼ inch.
Senior Brandy Depland finished third in the women’s long jump with an indoor season-best mark of 19 feet, 6 ¼ inches, to finish in third place for the Jackets. Junior Lindsey Vincent finished seventh with a mark of 18 feet, 8 inches, while freshman Nigel Orr finished seventh in the men’s long jump with a mark of 22 feet, 4 ¼ inches.
Senior Kira Barcus posted a fourth-place finish in the women’s pole vault with an indoor season-best tying mark of 10 feet, 11 ¾ inches.
Qualifying for the finals of the 60m hurdles for the Jackets was sophomore Shantia Moss, Lapsley and sophomore Tenisha Griggs. Moss ran a NCAA Provisional time of 8.34, Lapsley finished with a time of 8.66 and Griggs posted a time of 8.69.
Moving on to the finals of the women’s 60m were sophomores Antoinetta McKay and Tenisha Griggs. McKay clocked a time of 7.70, while Griggs finished with a time of 7.80.
Day two of the Tiger Classic will begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday morning.
