OXFORD, Miss. — On the first and final day of the Joe Walker Invitational for the Jackets, the Georgia Tech track and field team saw five personal-bests from their student-athletes.
Amy Ruiz and Nicole Fegans led the way for the Jackets each finishing in the top three and each topping their previous best. Ruiz turned in a second place finish with a time of 4:22.65, while Fegans finished in third with a time of 4:22.96.
“We knew we’d have a great opportunity tonight and the women really took advantage of it,” noted women’s track and field head coach Alan Drosky. “All five ran substantial personal bests, and Amy and Nicole both ran ACC qualifying times and times that should qualify also for the NCAA East Preliminary.”
“On the men’s side, Avery was in good position late in the race but just could not come up with his normal strong finish,” Drosky continued. “He is a little disappointed that he didn’t run the kind of time we were looking for, but he’s in great shape and there will be other opportunities.”
Avery Bartlett was the lone student-athlete from the men’s team this weekend. He would finish in 7th with a time 3:45.08.
The Jackets will be back in action next weekend on April 19 – 20 when they host the Georgia Tech Invitational.
