THE FLATS – Georgia Tech baseball kept the win streak going when it poured on five home runs to sweep Gardner-Webb, 13-8, on Sunday afternoon at Mac Nease Baseball Park at Russ Chandler Stadium.
The Yellow Jackets (26-18) scored seven runs in the second inning, thanks to home runs from Angelo Dispigna, Drew Compton, Jack Rubenstein, Jake DeLeo and Stephen Reid. Tech finished with 19 hits on the day as Dispigna led with a perfect 5-for-5 day. Reid and Jadyn Jackson also finished with three hits, while DeLeo, Compton and Rubenstein all finished with two hits. John Giesler also drove in two runs late.
RHP Finley (2-4) also delivered on the mound, holding the Runnin’ Bulldogs (27-16) to just two runs through five innings as he struck out four to earn his second win of the season. Gardner-Webb stayed scrappy and scored five on LHP Camron Hill before RHP Aeden Finateri pitched the final 3.1 innings of three-hit, one-run ball to slam the door, earning his third career save.
Gardner-Webb was led by Humberto Torres, who went 4-for-5 on the day. LHP Reid Bertram (1-4) took the loss, surrendering eight earned runs on 11 hits in 3.1 innings.
Georgia Tech will get the week off to finish final exams before concluding its homestand with Pitt on May 5-7. First pitch on Friday is set for 6 p.m. and will be broadcast live on ACC Network Extra.
