Saturday is Senior Day for Georgia Tech, as it will honor 24 student-athletes prior to the game. The 24 honorees include 13 student-athletes that are seniors eligibility-wise (the fourth-smallest senior class among all Power Five conference teams) and 11 student-athletes that are seniors academically and scheduled to graduate but could potentially choose to return in 2022 due to having eligibility remaining.
Top Storylines
• Georgia Tech hosts No. 1 Georgia for the 115th installment of one of college football’s most historic rivalries.
• Georgia Tech and Georgia did not play in 2020 as a result of the Southeastern Conference’s decision to play only conference games due to the Covid-19 pandemic. It marked the first year since 1924 that the Yellow Jackets and Bulldogs did not meet on the gridiron, snapping a string of 96-consecutive annual matchups.
• After a 3-3 start to its season, Georgia Tech has dropped five-straight decisions. Before last Saturday’s 55-0 setback at No. 6 Notre Dame, Tech’s average margin of defeat in the first four games of the skid was just 7.7 points.
• Georgia Tech Fr. RB and All-America candidate Jahmyr Gibbs enters Saturday’s game ranked No. 1 nationally in all-purpose yardage at 163.8 yards per game, 2.2 yards per game more than Central Michigan RB Lew Nichols and 3.2 yards per game more than Utah State WR Deven Thompkins. Should he finish the season ranked No. 1, he would become only the third Yellow Jacket to be an NCAA statistical champion since 2000, joining Justin Thomas (2015 – yards per completion, 17.9) and Pressley Harvin III (2020 – punting, 48.0 avg.).
