ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – Georgia Tech rising sophomore Irina Falconi ended her summer vacation by winning her second straight USTA Pro Circuit singles title with a 6-3, 6-3 defeat of Caitlin Whoriskey in the finals of the Heartland Clinc USTA Women’s Classic at the Noyes Tennis Center in St. Joseph.

Falconi, who teamed with Ashley Weinhold to win the tournament’s doubles title the day before with a 6-4, 7-6 (6) win over Chelsea Orr and Whorsikey, took a quick 3-0 lead in the first set over Whoriskey Sunday and never looked back.

“This whole summer has been great,” Falconi said. “I feel like I definitely played some of my best tennis these past few tournaments. This weekend was really great, winning the singles and doubles title. There is no better way to end a four week string of tournaments.”

A member of the 2009 USTA Summer Collegiate Team, Falconi finished the summer with a 13-1 singles mark and has won 10 straight pro matches in a row. Two weeks ago, the Jupiter, Fla., native swept through the Norman Wilkerson Tennis Experience at the Sugar Creek Tennis Center in Atlanta.

Falconi and the rest of the Yellow Jackets will begin their fall semester on August 17.
