Eubanks Drops First Round Match in Collegiate Invitational

Sept. 7, 2017

THE FLATS – Georgia Tech men’s tennis senior Christopher Eubanks suffered a 6-2, 6-4 setback to Mike Redlicki in the first round of the American Collegiate Invitational on Thursday afternoon.

Eubanks was unable to avenge his loss to Redlicki earlier this year as eight double faults quashed any momentum the Atlanta native tried to establish throughout. Redlicki was able to capitalize on seven break opportunities, converting on three of them, to outlast for the victory.

The Georgia Tech senior continued to fight until the end, however, as the second set proved to be much more competitive. However, five unforced errors in the set proved to be enough to keep Eubanks from advancing as he fell 6-4 in the second.

The American Collegiate Invitational ends Eubanks’ historic and hectic run in the 2017 U.S. Open. After becoming the first Georgia Tech student-athlete to earn a wild card entry into the main draw, Eubanks fought a tough battle against No. 72 Dudi Sela in his first main draw, before ultimately falling 6-2, 6-4, 6-2.

Eubanks then moved on to doubles action where, alongside Christian Harrison, the duo took a thrilling three-set victory (6-3, 4-6, 6-4) from Mischa Zverev and Mikhail Youzhny in the opening round. The American tandem would eventually drop their second round matchup in another three-set battle, 7-6 (5), 3-6, 4-6, to Robin Haase and Matwe Middelkoop.
