ATLANTA– – For the third straight year, Georgia Tech punter Dan Dyke has been named to the 2001 Verizon University Division Academic All-District III team, as announced today by the College Sports Information Directors of America.
Dyke, a junior from Winter Springs, Fla., maintains a 3.88 grade point average in Electrical Engineering. He is now eligible for the Verizon Academic All-America team, of which has been a member the last two years.
Dyke is averaging 42.0 yards per punt.
District III is made up of all Division I and I-AA schools in Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. To be eligible a player must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.2 in the classroom and be a starter or key reserve on the field. The players selected are now eligible for the national Academic All-America team will be announced on December 13th.
This year marks the 50th year of the Academic All-America program, as the inaugural team was announced on December 6, 1952. Since that time, more than 12,000 students have been named Academic All-America team members at colleges and universities at all levels for every recognized NCAA sport.
