THE FLATS – Georgia Tech’s Jordan Domineck (Lakeland, Fla./George Jenkins), whose outstanding performance in the Yellow Jackets’ 45-17 win over Kennesaw State was highlighted by a play that set off a social media storm, has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Defensive Lineman of the Week, the ACC office announced on Monday.
Domineck filled the stat sheet with five tackles, three tackles for loss, a sack, two forced fumbles and a 70-yard fumble return for a touchdown in the romp over Kennesaw State. The outstanding all-around performance will be remembered for his 70-yard scoop-and-score, which gave Tech a 14-0 lead late in the first quarter. On the play, Domineck batted down an attempted option pitch by KSU quarterback Xavier Shepherd, corralled the loose ball, pancaked Shepherd with a devastating stiff arm to break free, then guided his own blockers into the Owls’ final would-be tackler on his way into the end zone.

Domineck is the first NCAA Division I FBS student-athlete since 2009 to record a sack, three tackles for loss, two forced fumbles and a fumble return for a touchdown in a single game, and only the third FBS player to accomplish since 2000 (joining Georgia’s Marcus Howard vs. Hawaii in 2007 and UCLA’s Akeem Ayers in 2009).

The ACC weekly honor is the third of Domineck’s career. The fourth-year sophomore was also named ACC Defensive Lineman of the Week following his performances versus NC State in 2019 (10 tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss) and Duke in 2020 (two sacks, 2.5 TFL, strip sack and fumble recovery for TD).
Domineck and the Yellow Jackets return to action on Saturday when they travel to No. 6 Clemson. The ACC opener for both teams kicks off at 3:30 p.m. and will be televised nationally on ABC.
