Brandy Depland, Derek Hoye, and Kristi Miller were named Georgia Tech Student-Athletes of the Week for Monday, February 6, 2006.
Depland, a senior from Katy, Texas, led the Georgia Tech women’s track and field team at the Meyo Invitational last weekend. She shattered the school record in the triple jump with a NCAA Automatic qualifying mark of 44 feet, 2 inches, to finish in first place. That mark was a Meyo Invitational meet and Notre Dame Loftus Sports Center track record, and stands as the top mark in the nation.
Hoye, a sophomore from Columbus, Ohio, led the Georgia Tech men’s track and field team at the Meyo Invitational last weekend. He clocked a season-best time of 47.33 in the 400 meters to finish in fourth place for the Yellow Jackets. Hoye also ran a leg of the 4×400-meter relay team that posted a season-best time of 3:16.09.
Miller, a sophomore from Marysville, Mich., helped Georgia Tech to a 2-1 record at the school’s first appearance at the USTA-ITA National Indoor Championships. She teamed with Lyndsay Shosho to win all three doubles matches on the week, including 8-4 victories over the No. 18 ranked team from Kentucky and the No. 31 ranked team from Texas. In addition, she went 2-1 in singles play, including Tech’s lone singles win against Texas in the first round.
