Day One Complete at ACC Outdoor Championships

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — The Georgia Tech track and field team completed day one at the ACC Outdoor Championships Thursday in Tallahassee, Fla., at the Seminoles’ Mike Long Track.

Field Events
Myles McDavid placed eighth in the men’s long jump with a distance of 7.18m (23-6.75) and scored one team point for Georgia Tech. Donjhae Jones placed 13th in the women’s long jump with a leap of 5.70m (18-8.50), and Carissa Tipler took 15th (5.63m; 18-5.75).

After the first four events of the heptathlon, Alex Braxton sits in eighth place with 2,950 points. She will compete in the long jump, javelin throw, and the 800 meters Friday beginning at 12 p.m.

Preliminary Running Events
Jeremy Greenwald turned it on in the bell lap of the 1,500 meters to move from the middle of the pack and finish second in his heat in order to advance to the finals set for 5:30 p.m. on Saturday. Greenwald crossed the line ninth overall in a time of 3:46.00.

Brandon Lasater will join Greenwald in the finals on Saturday after finishing second in his heat. Lasater logged a time of 3:45.28 and took fifth overall.

Morgan Jackson ran to a time of 4:28.20 in the 1,500-meter prelims to lead Georgia Tech and finish 19th overall.

Ama Larbi placed second in her heat of the 400-meter hurdle preliminaries and 10th overall in a time of 59.72, but just missed qualifying for the final round. Shannon Innis placed third in the same heat in a time of 1:01.00 and took 14th overall. On the men’s side, Julian Darden placed 14th in the 400-meter hurdle preliminaries in a time of 55.00.

In the 200-meter preliminaries, Zachary Gunnz placed 12th with a time of 21.60, while Broderick Snoddy took 18th (22.22). For the women, Jamilah Middlebrooks placed 14th (24.24).

Running Finals
Melissa Fairey placed 11th in the 10,000m with a time of 35:45.48 and Kelly Meyer took 14th (36:30.18). Matthew Munns ran the men’s 10,000m race in a time of 32:13.82 and placed 20th.

ESPN3 coverage will be streamed lived on theACC.com from 7-9:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 14 and Friday, May 15; and from 6-9 p.m. on Saturday, May 16, with Tom Block handling play-by-play and former Olympic gold medalist and decathlon world record holder Dan O’Brien serving as analyst.

A full slate of events and preliminaries continues Friday and Saturday, with finals in most of the running events wrapping up the Championship Saturday evening.
