Running back P.J. Daniels and safety Dawan Landry were selected on day two of the National Football League Draft, joining first-day selection Gerris Wilkinson.
Daniels and Landry were both chosen by the Baltimore Ravens, Daniels in the fourth round with the 132nd overall selection and Landry in round five with pick No. 146. Wilkinson was drafted in the third round Saturday by the New York Giants, who used the No. 96 overall selection on the Tech linebacker.
A native of Houston, Texas, Daniels was a two-time all-Atlantic Coast Conference honoree. Last fall, he was the second-leading rusher in the ACC at 96.6 yards per game after the leading the league as a sophomore with 111.3 yards per game. He finished his career with 3,346 yards rushing to rank fourth on Tech’s career rushing list and 17th in ACC annals.
Landry, from Ama, La., was a three-year starter in the Tech secondary who earned second-team all-ACC honors as a senior. He ranks third in Tech history in career tackles by a defensive back with 250, while his 20.5 tackles for loss are the most ever by a Tech defensive back. He also has seven career interceptions, four fumble recoveries and nine pass breakups as he started every game of his last three seasons (37 straight games).
A two-time all-Atlantic Coast Conference selection, Wilkinson led the Jackets in tackles the last two seasons. As a senior he made 85 tackles with nine tackles for loss, four sacks, two interceptions and two pass breakups while leading a Tech defense that ranked in the top 25 nationally in virtually every category. He ranks seventh in Tech history in career tackles for loss (3). His career totals also include 253 tackles, 12.5 sacks, three interceptions and six pass breakups.
