Cubaj All-America Region Finalist

THE FLATS – Georgia Tech forward Lorela Cubaj was one of 52 finalists announced Thursday for the 2022 Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) NCAA Division I Coaches’ All-America team. The selection committee will choose the 10-member Coaches’ All-America team from these finalists and announce the team on March 31.

An All-America honorable mention last season, Cubaj put together a stellar campaign for her final year on The Flats. In December, Cubaj broke the Georgia Tech women’s basketball program record for career rebounds, surpassing the mark set by Bonnie Tate from 1977-79 to become the Yellow Jackets’ all-time leading rebounder. She finishes her collegiate campaign with 1,293 career points and 1,265 career rebounds.

This season, Cubaj averaged a double-double behind 11.1 rebounds and 10.0 points per game. She recorded 12 double-doubles and was named the ACC Defensive Player of the Year for the second consecutive season. Cubaj started all 32 games, led the Jackets in rebounding, assists (136), steals (44) and blocks (41). The Terni, Italy native finished the season with 22 double-figure rebounding games and 18 double-figure scoring games.

Cubaj helped Georgia Tech secure back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances as the Yellow Jackets made their 11th postseason appearance in the Big Dance this season.
