THE FLATS – Georgia Tech cross country competed at the Roy Griak Invitational on Friday. The women’s team finished sixth overall in the 6k race and the men’s team finished 13th overall in the 8k race.
“We didn’t have the day we wanted in either race. I’d say the women were ok and the men were decent. But we found out a lot about our team today. We come away from this knowing where we are strong and where we need to be better. We know where our fitness is in training, but racing well at this level is more than just fitness. So I think maybe we needed this today to put a spotlight on what we need to work on,” Head Coach Alan Drosky said.
Nicole Fegans was the first Yellow Jacket runner to cross in the 6k race with a time of 21:09.1. This was good for eighth overall in the race. Liz Galarza and Claire Moritz were the next two finishers for Tech when they crossed back-to-back with times of 21:48.5 and 21:48.7, respectively. Sarah Copeland and Katy Earwood round out the Georgia Tech scorers with times of 22:16.5 and 22:52.4, respectively.
Zach Jaeger cross the line first on the men’s side with a time of 25:22.1. The rest of the Tech scorers on the men’s side were James Cragin (25:29.8), Nick Nyman (26:22.7), Jack Voss (26:30.2) and Henrik Anderson (26:35.1).
Making their Jackets debut were Sophie Boice and Mary Brady who finished the 6k race in 23:26.9 and 23:43.0, respectively.
The next meet for the White and Gold comes on Saturday, Oct. 2 in Fairburn, Ga. at the Alexander/Asics Invitational. After the Alexander/Asics Invitational, the team travels to University Park, Pa. for the Penn State National Open before competing in the ACC Championships.
