KERNERSVILLE, N.C. – The Georgia Tech men’s and women’s cross country teams earned ninth and 12th places, respectively, Friday at the 2013 ACC Championships at Beeson Park hosted by Wake Forest. The men’s team was led by Brandon Lasater and the women were paced by Katie Townsend.
In its first-ever ACC championship, Syracuse took home the team title. The Orange scored 64 team points to out-distance second-place North Carolina, who finished with 84 points. Notre Dame finished third as a team with 105 points in its first ACC championship.
The Yellow Jacket men placed ninth with 256 points. The top five finishers for Tech included Lasater (35th; 24:55), Jeremy Greenwald (42nd; 25:04), Shawn Roberts (55th; 25:19), Alec Clifford (64th; 25:31) and Sidney Speir (79th; 25:54).
Florida State placed three runners among the top eight finishers and tallied 52 points to win its sixth-straight ACC Women’s Cross Country Championships. Virginia was second with 65 points.
Syracuse and Notre Dame placed third and fourth, respectively, with 108 and 124 points.
Georgia Tech’s women’s team placed 12th with 389 points. Townsend (65th; 22:06), Hayley Keadey (89th; 22:30), Allison Brackin (98th; 22:42), Melissa Fairey (100th; 22:43) and Kelly Meyer (102nd; 22:48) rounded out the top-five finishers for Georgia Tech.
The Jackets return to action at the NCAA South Regional Championships set for Nov. 15 in Tuscaloosa, Ala.
