Cross Country Heads to NCAA South Regionals

Nov. 12, 2015

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Georgia Tech men’s and women’s cross country teams will run at the 2015 NCAA South Region Cross Country Championships on Friday morning. The Jackets will be competing against a field of 36 schools, including rival Georgia and conference foes Florida State and Miami. It will be hosted by the University of Alabama at the Harry Pritchett Running Park.

“It should be a great competition in Tuscaloosa on Friday with NCAA qualifying spots and final regional rankings on the line,” head coach Alan Drosky said. “The men come off the ACC Championships with confidence that they are ready to compete with the top teams on our region. After last year’s sixth place finish we’re looking to improve on that and if we can execute a perfect race we think the top two is within reach. Brandon Lasater and Jeremy Greenwald will race for our cross team for the last time and they are as tough and talented as they come. Nahom Solomon is having a fantastic sophomore campaign. Zane Coburn is so talented and comes off a great ACC meet. After those four, Matt Munns and Alex Grady have been solid all year. And Patrick Fleming is capable of finishing very high for us, though he is battling an abdominal injury. If Patrick can’t go we’ll have Chris Burnett ready to go and we have great confidence in him.

“This is a real gut-check time for the women and they know each of them needs to step up this Friday,” added Drosky. “Melissa Fairey has been first for us several times and is capable of a great race, as are each of the women. Diana Pressel and Morgan Jackson are seniors running in their last race in the GT uniform so I know they will race with a lot of pride. Sarah Bowles and Haley Anderson have been consistent through the season, and Charlotte Stephens and Hailey Gollnick are redshirt freshmen who are ready to go.”
