Box Score (.pdf)

THE FLATS – Drew Compton announced his presence on Friday with a grand slam in the seventh before hitting the walkoff single in the bottom of the 10th to power Georgia Tech baseball past Duke 12-11 at Mac Nease Baseball Park at Russ Chandler Stadium

The Yellow Jackets (25-14, 10-9 ACC) trailed 11-6 heading into the bottom of the seventh before rallying to defeat the Blue Devils (16-22, 6-13 ACC). After a slugfest to open, RHP Zach Maxwell (4-0) settled the game with an impressive 3.0 innings of one-hit shutout work to close, punching out five.

At the plate, Tech finished with six multi-hit players on the night. In addition to Compton’s three-hit, five-RBI night, Andrew Jenkins also had three hits and two doubles, including the 10th-inning one-out double that would-be the game-winning run. Kevin Parada, Tres Gonzalez, Colin Hall and Stephen Reid also finished with two hits on the night, while Tim Borden II crushed a two-run home run early.

In addition to Maxwell, RHP Dawson Brown also helped settle the game on the mound for Tech, pitching a career-long 4.0 innings and allowing just two runs on two hits. LHP Sam Crawford also got two key outs late without a hit allowed.

Duke was led by Graham Pauley, who went 2-for-4 with a three-run home run, while RHP Jimmy Loper (3-3) received the loss, surrendering one run on four hits in the final 3.1 innings.

Georgia Tech continues its series against Duke on Saturday, April 23. First pitch is set for 4 p.m. and will be broadcast live on ACC Network Extra and WREK 91.1 FM.
