THE FLATS – After topping Southeastern Conference opponents Georgia and Arkansas in the Georgia Tech Classic, Georgia Tech volleyball sweeps ACC weekly honors for week four. Freshman Mariana Brambilla claimed her second ACC Freshman of the Week of the season and junior Kodie Comby was tabbed the ACC Player of the Week.
Brambilla posted two double-doubles on the weekend, recording 11 kills and 12 digs in the win over Georgia before tallying 16 kills and 14 digs against Arkansas. She extended her streak to five-straight matches with double-doubles and has totaled 10 in the 2018 season. The Brazil native averaged 3.00 kills per set over the two contests. She leads the team with 180 kills this season, averaging 3.67 kills per set. Brambilla was also tabbed as the ACC Co-Freshman of the Week on Sept. 3.
Comby turned in an impressive weekend for the Yellow Jackets. The junior from Houston, Texas hit at a team-high clip of .484 over the two matches, totaling 19 kills. She posted a career-high nine block assists in Tech’s win over Georgia, who was receiving votes in the AVCA Coaches’ Poll. She finished out the weekend with 14 total blocks and averaged 1.56 blocks per set.
The Yellow Jackets kick off ACC play this weekend, traveling to Syracuse and Boston College. Tech takes on the Orange in Syracuse, N.Y., at 7 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 21 before heading to Chestnut Hill on Sunday, Sept. 23 for a 1 p.m. match. Both matches will be broadcast on ACC Network Extra.
