THE FLATS – After helping Georgia Tech to a 2-0 week, freshman Chanin Scott was tabbed ACC Co-Rookie of the Week as announced by the conference office today. The weekly awards were voted on by members of the Blue Ribbon Panel.
Scott posted double-figure scoring numbers in both of Tech’s wins last week as the Yellow Jackets improved to 9-1 on the season with victories over Mercer and Appalachian State. The Charlotte, N.C., native averaged 11.5 points, 6.5 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.0 steals per game in the wins. She share’s the weekly award with Pitt’s Jasmine Whitney.
Scott opened the week contributing 13 points and six rebounds in Tech’s 70-50 triumph over Mercer. She followed that performance with 10 points and seven rebounds in the 81-52 victory over App State. Against the Mountaineers, Scott was 1-of-1 from three-point range as the Yellow Jackets set a new program record, hitting 14 three-pointers in the contest.
For the season, Scott is averaging 7.9 ppg and has scored in double-figures in each of the last three contests and five overall. She is second on the team in rebounding, securing 5.0 rpg.
This marks the first weekly award for Scott and the second for Georgia Tech this season. Freshman Francesca Pan picked up Rookie of the Week accolades following the Thanksgiving holiday. With two Rookie of the Week recipients this season it marks the first time Tech has had two freshmen earn the weekly award since the 2012-13 season.
Georgia Tech wrapped up a four-game homestand last Sunday and breaks for finals before visiting Alabama on Saturday, Dec. 17, in Tuscaloosa.
