HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. – After qualifying in the 3-meter diving event at the 2017 USA Diving National Preliminary Zone A Championships on Thursday, Georgia Tech diver Matt Casillas earned a spot at the senior nationals diving event in the 1-meter dive on Saturday at the preliminary meet in Huntersville, N.C.
In the Senior Men’s 1m Springboard dive, Casillas turned in a score of 304.30 over his six dives to again advance into the finals.
In the finals, the rising junior diver from California recorded a score of 306.20 to place sixth overall. With his sixth-place finish and one of the top-five divers already having prequalified for the 1-meter dive at the USA Diving Senior Nationals, Casillas secured his spot in the 1-meter dive at the national championships in August.
Casillas will look to make it three-for-three as he is set to dive in the men’s platform event tomorrow.
