THE FLATS – Recognition continues to roll in for Georgia Tech track and field sophomore Brandon Lasater as he was named the Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Performer of the Week the ACC announced Tuesday.
The Perry, Ga., native’s first ACC performer of the week honor this season came on the heels of being named the USTFCCCA’s Division I National Athlete of the Week.
A day after setting a personal record and ACC-leading time in the 800 meters to take fourth out of 44 competitors, Lasater chased down the 800-meter collegiate leader Sean Obinwa of Florida on his home track in the final 100 meters of the men’s 4×800-meter relay to steal the victory from the Gators with a 7:22.37 to Florida’s 7:22.41.
His PR in the 800 meters in his first event of the meet is the fastest time in the ACC so far this season. Heading into the weekend, he ranked No. 21 in the event according to the USTFCCCA.
Lasater and the Yellow Jackets are off this weekend as they continue to prepare for the ACC Outdoor Championships April 18-20 in Raleigh, N.C.
