Billy Mateker Earns ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American Honors For Second Straight Year

ATLANTA – Georgia Tech senior Billy Mateker was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American men’s track and cross country second team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Tuesday.

Mateker, a native of Lawrenceville, Ga., garners the Academic All-American honor for the second straight season after earning third team accolades in 2009. He recently completed his final season on The Flats as a member of both the cross country and track & field squads.

On the track during the 2010 indoor season, Mateker set new personal-bests in two events, the 1000m run (2:30.40) and the 3000m run (8:43.31). Mateker also captured the said 1000m run at the Tiger Paw Invitational in February.

During the cross country season, Mateker was Tech’s highest finisher in two events on the season, and posted his best performance of his senior campaign at the Great American Cross Country Festival with a time of 25:14.

As a Mechanical Engineering major at Tech, Mateker registered an impressive 3.98 GPA during his academic career and earned his undergraduate degree last month.
