Bilchev, Lee Return to Action at NCAA Championships

THE FLATS – Georgia Tech women’s tennis will resume postseason play in Lake Nona, Fla., as Kylie Bilchev and Carol Lee are set to open the NCAA Singles Championship on Monday. All singles and doubles action will take place at the USTA National Campus with the round of 64 singles beginning Monday at 9 a.m.

THE SCENE: The men’s and women’s singles round of 64 begins Monday, May 22 at 9 a.m. EST followed by the second round of singles and the opening round of doubles on Tuesday. Bilchev will make her first appearance in the NCAA Singles Championship after earning an at-large bid to represent Georgia Tech. She will open play facing Auburn’s Ariana Arseneault at 5 p.m.

Seeded 9-16, Lee will also represent the Yellow Jackets in the singles bracket, making her second appearance in postseason. Lee begins action on Monday at 12:30 p.m., taking on UCF’s Marie Mattel. A familiar opponent, Lee and Mattel will face each other for the third time this season, having met twice already. Lee and Mattel last met each other in the first round of the NCAA Tournament at the beginning of May with Lee pocketing a 6-4, 6-3 decision. Lee grabbed her first victory over Mattel this season in the quarterfinals of the ITA Southeast Regionals in the fall, collecting a 6-4,6-0 decision.

Action continues on Wednesday with the singles and doubles round of 16. The quarterfinals take place on Thursday, followed by the semifinals on Friday. The finals will be played on Saturday at 11 a.m.
