Benito, Rakitt Win Saturday at Bulldog Scramble

THE FLATS – Carlos Benito and Nathan Rakitt each won singles matches Saturday on day 2 of the Bulldog Scramble at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex, while Cole Fiegel and Rakitt dropped their doubles match.

Benito, a freshman from Madrid, Spain, defeated Vanderbilt’s Anton Kovirgin, 5-7, 6-1, 6-0, while Rakitt, a sophomore from Marietta, Ga., outlasted the Commodores’ Jeff Offerdahl, 6-4, 5-7, 7-6 (6). Both players are 2-1 for the weekend

Fiegel, a freshman from Alachua, Fla., who had lost to Offerdahl Friday, dropped a 6-1, 6-4 decision to 19th-ranked Ben Wagland of Georgia Saturday and fell to 1-2 on the weekend.

Meanwhile, Fiegel and Rakitt were unable to overcome the Bulldog’s Wagland and Hernus Pieters, the nation’s No. 2 doubles team, falling 6-3.

Competition in the round-robin event concludes Sunday. Tech is 5-4 cumulatively in singles, and Fiegel and Rakitt are 0-2 in doubles.
