ATLANTA–Tennis standout Kacie Anson and senior center Andy Tidwell-Neal were named the Wendy’s Georgia Tech Student-Athletes of the Week for Monday, November 8, 2004.
Anson, a junior from Fayetteville, Ga., went a perfect 3-0 in both singles and doubles action against players from Maryland, Marshall and Florida State at the Georgia Tech Invitational. She recorded straight-set victories in two singles matches, including a 7-5, 6-4 win over FSU’s Amberly Tantee on the final day of competition She also went undefeated in doubles with Dasha Potapova, including a 13-11 tiebreaker win against maryland’s Neda Mihneva and Veronika Subertova in Sunday’s match. On the weekend, she helped tech win 18 of 24 singls and 9 of 12 doubles matches.
Tidwell-Neal, a senior from Plymouth, Minn., was Georgia Tech’s top-performing lineman in the Yellow Jackets’ 24-14 ACC road win at NC State. Tidwell-Neal had 12 knockdown blocks for the Yellow Jackets, who rushed for 178 yards and allowed just one sack against an NC State defense that entered the game ranked third in the nation in total defense. The Wolfpack was allowing just 108.8 yard rushing per game, but Tech gained 178 yards despite playing without its top two tailbacks, P.J. Daniels and Chris Woods, who were injured. He blocked for redshirt freshman Rashaun Grant, Tech’s third-stringer, who gained 122 yards on 20 carries.
