Tampa, Fla. – Bo Andrews fired a final-round 66 (6-under-par) Tuesday and surged into a tie for medalist honors at the Gary Koch Invitational, while 8th-ranked Georgia Tech finished second in the event for the second straight year.
Andrews, a junior from Raleigh, N.C., earned his first collegiate victory by posting his best round of the year and matched his career low score set last year in the first round of the ACC Championship. He completed 54 holes with a 9-under-par score of 207, two strokes better than his previous career low of 209 (-7) at the 2012 Amer Ari Invitational, where he tied for sixth place.
The Tech junior, who shot 71-70 in the first two rounds Monday, shared the title with Rowin Caron of Florida State, who shot 71 Tuesday following a pair of 68s on Monday. Caron’s performance lifted the 18th-ranked Seminoles to the team title by seven shots over Tech.
Scores were generally higher Tuesday at the 7,389-yard Old Memorial Golf Club, but FSU bucked the trend by posting a 2-under-par 286 to finish the tournament at 23-under-par 841. All five Seminoles finished among the top 15 individuals.
The Yellow Jackets shot 292 (+4) Tuesday and wound up with a tournament total of 848 (-16), their best 54-hole score this year. No. 20 Auburn was a distant third at 860 (-4), the only other team to complete 54 holes under par. No. 9 Florida (+2) was fifth, followed by 26th-ranked Wake Forest (+9) among the 14 competing teams.
Four Yellow Jackets finished among the top 20 players. Anders Albertson, following a 75 Tuesday, tied for sixth place at 4-under-par 212, his third top-10 finish this year, while freshman Shun Yat Hak earned his first top-10 finish with a 3-under-par total of 213 after carding a 77 Tuesday. Ollie Schniederjans tied for 16th at even-par 216 after posting a closing 74.
Tech is back in action Saturday when it takes on South Carolina in a dual match at East Lake Golf Club.
