THE FLATS – Georgia Tech women’s basketball will open its 2021-22 Atlantic Coast Conference schedule hosting Wake Forest on Dec. 19 in McCamish Pavilion and will welcome nine league opponents to Atlanta, according to the league schedules released on Wednesday night.
ACC women’s basketball returns to an 18-game conference schedule in 2021-22, after playing a 20-game league slate due to Covid-19 last season. The Yellow Jackets will play host to five 2021 postseason teams in McCamish Pavilion including Wake Forest (Dec. 19), Louisville (Jan. 2), Florida State (Jan. 13), North Carolina (Jan. 23) and Clemson (Feb. 13). Tech will also welcome Virginia (Jan. 9), Boston College (Jan. 27), Notre Dame (Feb. 17) and Miami (Feb. 20).
Georgia Tech is coming off a historic 2020-21 season, making only its second-ever program appearance in the NCAA Tournament Sweet 16. The Yellow Jackets, one of eight ACC women’s basketball teams selected to the 2021 NCAA Tournament, will have 13 regular-season games broadcast on linear television this season through the ESPN family of networks, including ACC Network, and the conference’s Regional Sports Network (RSN). Tech’s road contest at NC State on Feb. 7 will serve as the Wolfpack’s Play 4 Kay contest and be televised as part of ESPN’s Big Monday.
All 135 ACC regular-season games will be available through the ESPN family of networks, with 66 regular-season games, including 59 conference games, to be televised by ACC Network. An additional nine games will air on other ESPN networks.
The 2022 ACC Women’s Basketball Tournament will be held March 2-6 at Greensboro Coliseum.
Nell Fortner, the 2021 reigning ACC Coach of the Year (Blue Ribbon Panel), and the Yellow Jackets return 10 letterwinners from last season’s squad, including its starting five lineup. Tech returns its top three leading scorers who averaged in double-figures last season in Lotta-Maj Lahtinen (15.0 points per game), Kierra Fletcher (13.0 ppg) and Lorela Cubaj (12.5 ppg). Cubaj averaged a double-double last season, leading the ACC in rebounding with an 11.5 rebounds per game average.
