GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – The Atlantic Coast Conference will continue its sportsmanship awareness campaign by recognizing Fall Sportsmanship Week from Monday, September 29 through Sunday, October 5. ACC Sportsmanship Weeks are a campaign to emphasize sportsmanship as it relates to ACC teams, the conference and fans by designating one week during the fall, winter and spring seasons.
“Sportsmanship continues to be one of the most important values within the ACC, and through this initiative we bring its importance to the forefront,” said ACC Commissioner John Swofford. “We’re proud of our member institutions’ continued efforts to promote and instill the values of sportsmanship throughout the year.”
At all ACC home competitions during Fall Sportsmanship Week, every league team will showcase its continued dedication to sportsmanship by participating in a pregame handshake. In addition to the teams’ efforts, the conference and member schools will highlight the initiative to fans through releases, social media platforms and on official websites.
A total of 55 intercollegiate athletic events are scheduled to take place during the 2014 ACC Fall Sportsmanship Awareness Week. All fall sports (men’s and women’s soccer, men’s and women’s cross country, field hockey, volleyball and football) will be involved.
Updates on ACC Sportsmanship Week will be posted on theACC.com, by the Facebook , Twitter and Instagram accounts and using #ACCSportsmanship.
