Women’s Basketball Remains at No. 16 in AP Poll

THE FLATS – Georgia Tech women’s basketball stood steady at No. 16 in the latest Associated Press women’s basketball poll released on Monday. The Yellow Jackets have been ranked in the top 25 four straight weeks.

Tech (10-3, 1-1 ACC) took the hardwood in one contest this week, pushing No. 3 Louisville to the wire on Sunday. Playing with a short-handed lineup, Tech led for over 33 minutes in the Atlantic Coast Conference matchup, but the Cardinals scored on a layup with three seconds remaining for the game-winning bucket. Lorela Cubaj notched her sixth double-double of the season behind 12 points and a game-high 16 rebounds. The Jackets were led offensively by Digna Strautmane who pitched in 13 points.

For the fourth week in a row, the ACC boasted six teams in the top 25: No. 3 Louisville, No. 5 NC State, No. 16 Georgia Tech, No. 17 Duke, No. 19 North Carolina and No. 20 Notre Dame.

Georgia Tech ranks first in the ACC and nation in scoring defense, and holds the top spot in the league in field goal percentage defense (third in the nation). Individually, Cubaj leads the ACC and country in rebounds per game, averaging 12.8.

Up next, Georgia Tech hits the road for a tilt at No. 17 Duke on Thursday. Tipoff is slated for 7 p.m. in Cameron Indoor Stadium and will be broadcast on ACC Network Extra.
