Women's Basketball Fourth in Preseason Poll

The Georgia Tech women’s basketball was picked to finish fourth in the Atlantic Coast Conference in the preseason poll, conducted Wednesday at the 13th annual ACC Women’s Basketball Media Day.

Duke received 36 of 36 first place votes to finish unanimously atop poll. North Carolina followed the Blue Devils in the balloting, while Virginia finished third, and then Georgia Tech and first-year head coach MaChelle Joseph.

Florida State was fifth, followed by NC State, Clemson, Maryland and Wake Forest.

Tech senior Fallon Stokes was named to the five-member preseason all-ACC team, along with Duke’s Alana Beard and Iciss Tillis, Virginia’s Brandi Teamer and Nikita Bell of North Carolina.

Beard, the 2002 and 2003 ACC Player of the Year was the unanimous selection as the league’s preseason Player of the Year, while Tar Heel freshman Ivory Latta was named the ACC preseason Rookie of the Year.
