Volleyball Improves to 7-3, Defeats Winthrop

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (Sept. 17) — In the first round of the Crimson Tide Classic, the Georgia Tech (7-3) volleyball team defeated Winthrop University (5-6) 3-0 by the scores of 15-4, 15-9, 15-11.

The Yellow Jackets’ offense struggled on the afternoon hitting only .224 as a team for the match. Teryl Townsend (Alexandria, Minn.) led Georgia Tech with 13 kills on 27 attempts followed by Kyleen Bell (Rocklin, Calif.) who added nine kills on 23 attempts. Carolyn Clevenger (Oakland, Calif.) compiled 31 assists in the match and added a match-high 14 digs.

Georgia Tech continued to show dominance on the net as they collected nine blocks in three game match. Anna Nedderman (Euless, Texas) tallied six block assists while Bell added two block solos and two block assists. Georgia Tech will play again this evening in the final match of the day in Crimson Tide Classic against the Air Force Academy (7-1) at 7:30 p.m.
