Two Yellow Jacket Divers In Olympic Trials Competitions

June 15, 2012

ATLANTA – Two Georgia Tech divers have been involved in international competitions this summer, with rising senior Brandon Makinson in the Canadian Olympic Trials in May, and incoming freshman Shannon Lumbra taking part in the United States Trials.

Makinson, who earned All-ACC honors after a silver-medal performance on the one-meter board at this year’s ACC Championship, competed at the Olympic Trials for his native country of Canada in May. He finished 12th on the three-meter springboard.

Lumbra, who joins the Jackets this coming season, will compete in the U.S. Olympic Trials in the three-meter, on Tuesday, June 19 in Seattle. A native of Flower Mound, Texas, Lumbra finished sixth in the three-meter and ninth in the one-meter at the U.S. Junior Nationals.

In addition to the Lumbra, there are a record 10 Yellow Jacket swimmers competing in the U.S. Olympic Swimming Trials next week in Omaha, Neb.
