ATLANTA – The Georgia Tech men’s and women’s track and field teams will open up the New Year at the Kentucky Invitational this Friday and Saturday, Jan. 14-15. The two-day indoor track meet will begin on Friday at 6 p.m. and conclude on Saturday afternoon.
“I’m really excited to be heading to Lexington to open up the 2005 season,” said men’s head coach Grover Hinsdale. “I can assure you the members of this team feel the same way. I have been pleased in what I have seen in our training sessions and look forward to taking part in, what should be, a very competitive meet.”
“The Kentucky meet has been a fixture on our schedule for a number of years so it’s a great barometer of where we are at the beginning of each year,” said women’s head coach Alan Drosky. “We had some great performances in our only meet back in December and look to improve on those. The competition is great, the facility is first-class, and we’re excited about getting going again.”
The Yellow Jackets will take a full squad on both sides for the first time this indoor season. Junior Andriane Lapsley earned Atlantic Coast Conference Female Performer of the Week honors this past Monday after tallying three top-three finishes at the Clemson Opener on Dec. 3, 2004. The San Antonio, Texas, native posted a NCAA provisional qualifying mark in the 60-meter dash.
Tech will travel to Johnson City, Tenn., for the Niswonger Invitational next Friday and Saturday, Jan. 21-22, for its next indoor meet.
