ATLANTA – The Georgia Tech women’s tennis team won just two matches, dropping a 5-2 decision to Virginia Commonwealth at the Bill Moore Tennis Center on Thursday afternoon.
The Rams (9-1) jumped on top early in the match, sweeping the doubles matches from the Yellow Jackets (10-3).
The Rams continued their impressive play in the singles matches, winning four of six. Junior Jaime Wong fought hard for the Jackets, winning her match at No. 3 by a straight-set score of 7-5, 6-1 over Cristina Gago. Wong was followed at No. 6 by senior Laura Ozolins, who defeated the Rams’ Jana Carollo by a 6-3, 6-1 score.
Tech rookie Catherine Gunn lost for the first time this season as she fell 3-6, 4-6 in the No. 2 spot to Andrea Ondrisova. Junior Mysti Morris lost a tough match at No. 1 by a straight-set score of 4-6, 3-6 to Martina Nedelkova.
At No. 5, Junior Mason Miller won her first set before falling in three sets to Barbora Zahnova by a score of 6-3, 0-6, 5-7.
The Yellow Jackets will open ACC play this Saturday at NC State.
