MIAMI, Fla. – The Georgia Tech women’s swimming & diving team was clipped by No. 49 Florida International, 130-94, Thursday in a dual meet in Miami. Junior captain Kate Brandus was one of three Yellow Jackets to win events for Tech.
The Jackets are in the midst of their annual winter training trip to south Florida, and are in action again Saturday versus Florida Atlantic and Denver in Boca Raton.
Brandus won the 100 fly in Thursday’s meet, putting down a winning time of 56.85, and was followed in third place by sophomore Frederique Lefebvre (58.72).
In the next event, the 100 free, the Jackets went 1-2 as sophomore Chiara Ruiu took the top spot in a time of 52.62, followed by senior captain Hailey White in a time of 53.01. White also picked up a second-place finish in the 200 free (1:53.39), while Ruiu was second in the 200 IM (2:08.35).
Freshman Xanna Tracey won the 100 back (58.25) and finished third in the 50 free (24.76). Kate Woolbright finished second in the 500 free in a time of 5:05.34.
Tech’s two relays both finished second to FIU as the 200 medley of Carly Sweeney, Catherine Richards, Brandus and Erika Staskevicius put down a time of 1:49.01 and the 200 free of Staskevicius, Kate Clark, Ruiu and White touched the wall in 1:37.16.
On the boards, Shannon Lumbra scored 274.72 points and finished second on the 1-meter, while Ashley Hardy’s 309.45 points were good for second on the 3-meter.
Saturday’s meet at FAU begins at 10 a.m.
