Tech One Shot Back at the Gary Koch Invitational

THE FLATS – Shun Yat Hak fired rounds of 70-66 Monday and is tied for the individual lead, and Georgia Tech played the first 36 holes 20 strokes under par and is one shot off the lead heading into the final round of the Gary Koch Invitational.

The tournament became a two-team race after two rounds between Tech and Florida State. The 8th-ranked Yellow Jackets shot rounds of 279 and 277 for a 36-hole total of 556 (-20) and stand one shot off the lead of the Seminoles (278-277=555, -21). Host Auburn is 12 shots behind Tech at 568 (-8), and Florida is fourth at 573 (-3). They are the only teams under par for 36 holes.

Four Tech players are among the top 17 individually, led by Hak, a freshman from Lake Mary, Fla., playing in his second event counting toward the Tech team score. He is 8-under-par over 36 holes on the 7,389-yard Old Memorial Golf Club, tied with Florida State’s Rowin Caron, who shot a pair of 68s.

Anders Albertson (Woodstock, Ga.) is one shot back after rounds of 69-68 for a 36-hole total of 137 (-7). Bo Andrews (Raleigh, N.C.) shot 71-70 and is tied for ninth, and Ollie Schniederjans (Powder Springs, Ga.) is tied for 13th after rounds of 69-73.

Tech is in the final groups teeing off at 9:35 a.m. in Tuesday’s final round.
