Tech Falls on Saturday to Tar Heels

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Georgia Tech baseball’s offense was unable to overcome six runs over the third and fourth innings, falling 10-5 to North Carolina on Saturday afternoon at Boshamer Stadium.

The Yellow Jackets (22-14, 8-9 ACC) were held to just eight hits and 3-for-15 with runners on, but still managed to scratch across five runs.  Tech was led by Colin Hall, who finished 2-for-4 with a double, while Tim Borden II mashed a sixth-inning solo home run after an early sac fly for two RBI. Kevin Parada and Stephen Reid also drove in runs on the day.

On the mound, Tech used four pitchers overall. Starter RHP Logan McGuire (2-2) received the loss, allowing five runs on seven hits in 2.1 innings. LHP Luke Bartnicki had the cleanest day in relief with 1.2 innings of two hit work with no runs to close.

The Tar Heels (22-13, 8-9 ACC) were led by Johnny Costagnozzi, who went 3-for-4 with two RBI. LHP Brandon Schaeffer (3-1) received the win, going 5.2 innings to start, allowing four runs on six hits.

Georgia Tech will battle in the rubber game on Sunday, April 17. First pitch is set for 1 p.m. and will be broadcast live on ACC Network Extra and WREK 91.1 FM.
