Tech Concludes Day One of Black & Gold Invitational

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Georgia Tech men’s tennis concludes day one of the Black & Gold Invitational with multiple wins. The Yellow Jackets secured two doubles wins and five singles wins. 

In doubles play, sophomore Robert Bauer (Suwanee, Ga.) and Junior Rohan Sachdev (Cary, NC.) secured an 8-7 (2) win over Vanderbilt’s Juan Lopez/ Alexandre Hillhouse. Also victorious in doubles play were sophomore Elias Shokry (Marietta, Ga.) and freshman Owen DeMuth (Bloomfield, Mich.) defeating Vanderbilt’s Callum Rendle/Oscar Jensen 8-5. 

A host of Yellow Jackets picked up wins in singles play today including freshman Richard Biagiotti (Lunderskov, Denmark),junior Gabriele Brancatelli (Florence, Italy), DeMuth, Bauer, and Shokry. 

Three Yellow Jackets secured wins in straight sets; Brancatelli (6-3,6-4), Biagiotti (6-4,6-3), and Bauer (6-4,6-1). After a successful first set, winning in the tie break 7-5, DeMuth secured a win over Vanderbilt’s Oscar Jensen by dominating the second set 6-2. Shokry’s victory over Vanderbilt’s Callum Rendle was a helluva match, after dropping the first set 6-7(0) in the tiebreak, the second was also determined in a tiebreak 7-5 where Shokry had success and he would go on to secure the win in the third set 6-3. 

Georgia Tech will be back in action tomorrow at 10:30 a.m.

Elias Shokry (Georgia Tech) vs. Callum Rendle (Vandy) 6-7 (0), 7-5, 6-3 

Robert Bauer (Georgia Tech) vs. Paul Wang (Vandy) 6-4, 6-1
