Smith and Higgs Named Georgia Tech Student-Athletes of the Week

Jeremis Smith and Stephanie Higgs were named Georgia Tech Student-Athletes of the Week for December 12, 2005.

Smith, a sophomore from Ft. Worth, Texas, averaged 21.5 points and 12.5 rebounds in Tech’s two games last week, a 91-75 loss at Georgia and an 82-72 win over Tennessee State. He made 11 of 20 shots from the floor and 19 of 31 free throws in the two games. For the third and fourth straight games, Smith achieved career highs in points and earned his third and fourth career double-doubles. At Georgia, he scored 19 points and grabbed 14 rebounds. Against Tennessee State, he scored 22 points with 11 rebounds, went 10-for-10 from the foul line and dished out eight assists. For the season, he is averaging 13.9 points and 9.1 rebounds, is shooting 47.7 percent from the floor, has a team-high 16 steals and ranks third in assists with 18.

Higgs, a junior from Lawrenceville, Ga., scored a season-high 22 points to lead the Yellow Jackets to a 56-51 win over San Diego last week. In the game, she connected on 10 of 16 shooting, including two three pointers. The women’s team is now 6-1 on the season.
