As A Junior In 2014-15: Recorded season-best times in the 50 free and 100 free at the ACC Championship… Finished 30th in the 50 free at the ACC Championship in a time of 20.49 and was 31st in the 100 free (44.99)… Swam on Tech[apos]s 200 medley relay at the ACC Championship that posted a time of 1:28.24 and finished ninth and was part of the 200 free relay that was sixth in a time of 1:19.19… Came back on the 200 free relay at the Yellow Jacket qualifier to post a season-best time of 1:19.12… Recorded a career-best time in the 100 fly at the ACC Championship of 49.32, which was good for 29th place.
As A Sophomore In 2012-13: Enjoyed a strong sophomore campaign by setting career-best times in the 50 free (20.36), the 100 free (44.83) and the 200 free (1:39.77)… Was a part of three relays that scored points at the ACC Championship… The Jackets[apos] 200 free relay of Chetcuti, Andrew Kosic, Eric Chiu and Nico van Duijn finished fourth at the ACCs in a time of 1:18.26, which ranks as the second-fastest time in Tech history… He teamed with same relay and finished fifth in the 400 relay (2:55.48) and also set the second-fastest time in school history… Tech[apos]s 800 free relay of Chetcuti, Mats Westergren, Yuval Safra and Zach Tillman finished fifth at the ACCs in a time of 6:38.14… His career-best 50 free time (20.36) came during a seventh-place finish in the GT Invitational… His career-best 100 free time of 44.83 ranks 10th on Tech[apos]s all-time list and came at the ACC Championship where he finished 21st.
At The 2012 London Olympics: Swam the 100m free in his Olympics debut and put down a time of 51.67, which was third-fastest in his heat, but did not advance from the preliminaries.
As A Freshman In 2011-12: Qualified for the 2012 Summer Olympic Games in London for his native country of Malta… Set Maltese national records in the 50m free (23.60) and 100m free (51.57) at the Small States of Europe Swimming Championship in June in qualifying for the Olympic Games… Set three season-best times at the ACC Championship in February… finished 19th in the 50 free (20.43), was 19th in the 100 free (45.10) and 33rd in the 100 fly (49.95)… Swam on the third-place 200 free relay at the Georgia Tech Invitational, posting the 10th-best time in school history of 1:21.76… Also at the GT Invitational, was part of the 400 free relay that finished third and posted the seventh-fastest time in Tech history of 3:00.96.
Before Tech: Swam for seven seasons under Coaches Grant Kritzinger and Elaine Adamson… Also ran cross country for five seasons… Earned the honor of captain… Named team MVP during his junior and senior seasons… Was also MVP in water polo and a course record holder in cross country… Earned Sportsman of the Year during his senior year… Competed in the Games of the Small States of Europe on behalf of the Maltese National Team, winning silver in the 100 free and bronze in the 50 free… Broke the national record in the 50 free at the FINA World Championships… Maltese national record holder in the 50 free and 100 free and as part of the 200 free relay, 200 medley relay, 400 free relay and 400 medley relay… Earned Head Boy honors during his senior year.
Personal: Born Andrew Chetcuti on November 19, 1992 in Pieta, Malta… Parents are Clifford and Natalie Chetcuti… Has one brother Matthew… Chose Georgia Tech for its Biomedical Engineering program, swim program, and excellent facilities, faculty and campus… Hobbies include snowboarding, going to the movies and video games.
