Pumputis Sets ACC Record for Second Gold

Final Results

THE FLATS – Georgia Tech men’s swimming team finished the ACC Swim Championships in eighth, accumulating a total of 550 points.

Sophomore Caio Pumputis capped an impressive weekend, leading the way for the Jackets as he was named the Co-Most Valuable Swimmer with NC State’s Coleman Stewart. It’s the first time since 1999 Co-MVPs were named.

Pumputis finished in first in the 200 breast finals with a time of 1:51.56, breaking the school record, pool meet record, and conference record. Pumputis’ time also tops as the fastest time in the country this season.

Men’s Highlights

In the 200 back, Rodrigo Correia finished eighth in the Championship Final with a blazing time of 1:42.00, a NCAA B cut time. Also in swimming well in the 200 back was Colt Williamson and Kyle Barone also swam well. Williamson would finish in eighth in the B final with a time of 1:45.15, while Barone set a new career-best time of 1:45.17, finishing in third in the C Final.

In addition to Pumputis, Joseph Portillo also finaled in the 200 breast, finishing fifth in the C Final with a career-best time of 1:58.72.

Then in the 100 free, Darren Lim swam a 43.49 to finish fifth in the C Final. Christian Ferraro then led the 200 fly group with a NCAA B qualifying time of 1:43.58 to make B finals. Tim Slanschek then led in the B final with a seventh-place 1:44.06, while Ferraro placed eighth at 1:45.64. Clay Hering then finished sixth in the C final with a 1:45.56 after a 1:44.37 prelim.

Finishing out the day, the Yellow Jackets squad of Correia, Darren Lim, Austin Daniel and Pumputis finished eighth overall with a 2:53.62 in the 400 free relay.

* Clay Hering turned in a career-best time, 1:44.37 in route to qualifying for final in the 200 fly, NCAA B cut time
* Cale Russell finished 20th turning in a career-best time, 15:18.62 in the 1650, NCAA B cut time
* Joonas Koski turned in a season-best time, 15:31.27 in the 1650
* Rodrigo Correia finished in 8th in the Championship Final with a time of 1:42.00 in the 200 back, NCAA B cut time
* Colt Williamson finished in 8th in the Consolation Final with a time of 1:45.15 in the 200 back
* Kyle Barone turned in a new career-best time, 1:45.17, finishing in 3rd in the C Final in the 200 back
* Darren Lim finished in 5th in the C Final with a time of 43.49 in the 100 free
* Caio Pumputis finished in first with a blazing time of 1:51.46, his time is the top 200 breast time posted this year, school record, pool meet record, conference record, NCAA A cut time in the 200 breast
* Joseph Portillo finished in 5th in the C Final with a career-best time, 1:58.72 in the 200 breast
* Tim Slanschek finished in 7th in the Consolation Final with a time of 1:44.46 in the 200 fly, NCAA B cut time
* Christian Ferraro finished in 8th in the Consolation Final with a time of 1:45.64 in the 200 fly, NCAA B cut time
* Clay Hering turned in a time of 1:45.56, finishing in 6th in the C Final in the 200 fly, time was NCAA B cut time
