THE FLATS – The second-seeded and fourth-ranked Georgia Tech women’s tennis team opens ACC Championship play on Friday facing seventh-seeded Syracuse in the quarterfinals at 11:30 a.m. The tournament is being played at the Cary Tennis Park in Cary, N.C.
THE SCENE: After closing out the regular season on a six-match win streak, Georgia Tech seeks its fifth ACC championship this weekend. The Jackets earned the No. 2 seed in the tournament after posting a 20-4 overall record and 12-2 ACC mark.
Last season, the Jackets advanced to the title match after defeating Wake Forest and Duke in the quarterfinals and semifinals, respectively. Tech fell to North Carolina, 4-3, in the championship. Under the direction of head coach Rodney Harmon, Tech owns an 8-5 record in the ACC tournament.
Syracuse reached the quarterfinals after defeating Pittsburgh in the second round on Thursday. The Orange own a 17-6 record this season and finished the conference season with an 8-6 mark to earn the No. 7 seed in the tournament. Syracuse defeated Tech in the regular season, 4-3.

ITA RANKINGS: Tech dropped one spot in the latest ITA rankings released Tuesday and sits at No. 4 in the nation. Syracuse comes in at No. 27. Below are the individual rankings, which were released March 6:
