No. 37 Georgia Tech Men's Tennis Blanked by No. 5 Duke, 7-0

The No. 5 Duke Blue Devils men’s tennis team defeated No. 37 Georgia Tech, 7-0, in an Atlantic Coast Conference match on Saturday afternoon. The Blue Devils improve to 14-2, 4-0 ACC while the Yellow Jackets fall to 9-7, 1-4 ACC on the season.

Duke captured the doubles point with wins at all three positions. The Blue Devils opened the match win a win at No. 1 as Ludovic Walter and Jason Zimmerman combined to defeat David North and Marko Rajevac, 8-4. Soon after, the pair of Stephen Amritraj and Peter Shults defeated Scott Blackmon and Noah Tyler, 8-2. In the final doubles match, No. 29 Peter Rodrigues and Jonathan Stokke held on to defeat Jose Muguruza and Sukhwa Young, 9-8 (4).

Duke took a 2-0 lead as the Blue Devils won at No. 3 singles as #97 Stokke defeated Rajevac, 6-0, 6-4. The Blue Devils then built their lead to 3-0 as No. 5 Walter beat No. 21 Muguruza, 6-4, 6-3. Duke then clinched the match at No. 2 singles as No. 66 Amritraj came back to defeat North, 6-7 (3), 6-2, 6-2.

In the other singles matches of the day, Zachary Rath lost at No. 4 singles to No. 80 Rodrigues, 3-6, 6-2, 6-1 while Jordan Delass lost to Charles Brezac at No. 5, 6-4, 6-2. The Blue Devils then swept the match as Scott Blackmon fell at No. 6 singles to Ned Samuelson, 6-2, 6-4.

The Yellow Jackets will return to action tomorrow when they take on No. 30 Wake Forest (12-4, 4-2 ACC) at 1 p.m. at the Bill Moore Tennis Center.
