No. 3 Tech Women Blank No. 68 Auburn, 7-0

ATLANTA – The No. 3 Georgia Tech women’s tennis team breezed to a 7-0 victory over No. 68 Auburn Saturday afternoon at the Bill Moore Tennis Center. The Yellow Jackets improved their record to 7-1 on the season while Auburn dropped to 3-2.

Despite falling behind early, Tech’s top doubles combination of Kristi Miller and Whitney McCray were the first to finish, notching an 8-6 win over Auburn’s Melissa Koning and Alex Haney before the senior Yellow Jacket tandem of Alison Silverio and Tarryn Rudman clinched the doubles point for Tech with an 8-2 victory against Whitney Chappell and Kelly Adams.

Tech’s freshman team of Amanda Craddock and Kirsten Flower then finished off the doubles sweep with an 8-5 win over Fani Chifchievea and Jil Hastenrath.

Miller, ranked 15th in the nation in singles, picked up where she left off in doubles, giving Tech the 2-0 match lead with a 6-1, 6-1 win over No. 84 Chifchievea at the top of the singles lineup before No. 82 Silverio pushed the score to 3-0 with a 6-0, 6-3 victory against Haney at the No. 3 singles spot.

No. 95 Christy Striplin clinched match point for the Yellow Jackets, defeating Koning, 6-4, 6-3 at the No. 2 position before 64th-ranked Craddock pushed the score to 5-0 with a 6-0, 6-4 win against Hastenrath at No. 5 singles.

Amanda McDowell’s 6-1, 6-1 victory over Adams at No. 6 singles gave Tech the 6-0 lead before Rudman finished off the sweep for the Jackets with a 6-3, 6-3 win against Chappell at the No. 4 position.

The Yellow Jackets will travel to Nashville to face 12th-ranked Vanderbilt Thursday at 3:30 p.m. before returning to Atlanta for a match against Denver next weekend. Live stats for Thursday’s match will be available at http://vucommodores.collegesports.com/sports/w-tennis/gameday.html.
