THE FLATS – Georgia Tech swimming and diving readies to conclude its home 2018-19 schedule this weekend when it hosts Denver on Friday-Saturday, Jan. 25-16 at the McAuley Aquatic Center.
The Yellow Jackets are scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. on Friday and 11 a.m. on Saturday. Friday is the team’s Faculty Appreciation Day and Saturday is Senior Day with festivities beginning approx. 30 minutes before the scheduled start. During the ceremony, Georgia Tech will honor its 10 seniors: Matt Casillas, Rodrigo Correia, Nolan Mallet, Joseph Portillo, Colt Williamson, Lila Best, Laura Branton, Sara Gilbert, Florina Ilie and Iris Wang.
Tech’s last time out saw it collect 12 first-place finishes en route to a 1-1 day overall with the 19th-ranked men’s team getting the victory.
The men’s team had Tim Slanschek (200 fly), Darren Lim (100 free), Caio Pumputis (100 fly), Kyle Barone (100 back) and Corben Miles (50 free) nabbed gold finishes individually, while the 200 medley relay team of Rodrigo Correia, Albert Zhi, Pumputis and Miles and the meet-winning 400 free relay – Correia, Austin Daniel, Pumputis and Lim.
The women’s team was led by diver Camryn Hidalgo, who swept the diving events with first-place finishes in the 1- and 3-meter events. For the swimmers, Iris Wang (200 free), Kristen Hepler (200 breast) and Emily Ilgenfritz (500 free) all finished atop the podium in their individual events.
The entire two-day meet will be broadcast live on ACC Network Extra.
