CORAL GABLES, FLA.ย โ No. 10 Georgia Tech volleyball (17-5, 10-3 ACC) had its six-match win streak broken by Miami (15-9, 8-5 ACC), falling 3-1 (18-25, 25-22, 25-22, 25-22) on Friday night at the Knight Sports Complex.
Senior outside hitter Julia Bergmann still made noise of her own on the night, once more bolstering her catalog of program records as she moved to eighth in program history in career kills. The vaunted attacker surpassed her former all-American teammate Mariana Brambilla, improving to 1,592 kills after her 16 on the night. Bergmann also added 10 digs, three aces and four blocks, resulting in her ninth double double of the season.
Other bright spots for the Jackets included graduate middle blocker Breland Morrissette, who anchored the defense piling up a career-high eight blocks while maintaining her efficiency on offense with nine kills at a .467 clip and an ace. Junior right side hitter Tamara Otene joined Bergmann in having double digit kills with 10, also matching her four blocks.
Junior outside hitter Bella DโAmico ran the point on offense, totaling 40 assists, and senior libero Paola Pimentel led the squad with 23 digs. Senior middle blocker Erin Moss also added six blocks as the Jackets in totality held the advantage on the block (14-8).
Georgia Tech vs. Miami

How it Happened
In a competitive first set, both squads battled early. Georgia Tech was the first to gain momentum, using a four-point run to take an 8-5 lead. Miami would match that run soon after to slip ahead, 11-10. The Hurricanes continued to work their way up to a 16-13 advantage, but the Yellow Jackets caught fire from there, claiming eight straight points to catapult back in front, 21-16. The White and Gold maintained control from that point, taking the last three points for a 25-18 victory in set one.
In another highly contested set, neither squad could separate by more than two points in the second until Miami strung together four straight points to move in front, 18-14. The Jackets would close the gap to just one, trailing 23-22, but the Canes closed out the set for a 25-22 win in set two.
Miami tipped the scales in its favor early in the third set, slipping ahead 15-10 thanks in large part to a stretch of five points in six chances. Tech bounced back, going on a six-point streak to take over the lead, 16-15. The Hurricanes separated again with another five points in six opportunities to lead it 22-19, but the Yellow Jackets came back with three straight to even the tally at 22. Miami rallied one final time to close things out, winning the final three points for a 25-22 victory in set three.
As the two sides traded blows into the fourth set, Georgia Tech used a pair of three-point runs for an initial 9-8 lead and a following 12-10 advantage. The Canes would even the set at 13 apiece, later using a burst of four to take a 19-15 lead. As momentum shifted back and forth, Tech rebounded with five points in a stretch of six to knot the score at 21 all. Miami got the final push it needed from there, taking four of the final points to come away with the 25-22 triumph in set four, resulting in a 3-1 match win.

Competitive Drive Initiative
In a unified endeavor, Georgia Tech, the Georgia Tech Foundation, Georgia Tech athletics and the Alexander-Tharpe Fund have come together to accelerate funding for student-athlete scholarships with the launch of the Competitive Drive Initiative. The initiative kicks off with the Accelerate GT Match Program, where any new gift to the A-T Fundโs Athletic Scholarship Fund made through Dec. 31 will be matched dollar-for-dollar by the Georgia Tech Foundation, up to $2.5 million. Should Accelerate GT reach its $2.5 million fundraising goal, the matching gift would result in a $5 million impact for Georgia Tech athletics.
