COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Senior Jason Howard broke the school record in the preliminaries of the 50-yard freestyle with a personal-best time of 20.36 to qualify for the championship finals at the 2006 Men’s Atlantic Coast Conference Swimming Championships on Thursday.
Three Yellow Jackets posted NCAA `B’ standard times in the 500 free during the prelims. Senior Sam Morgan clocked a season-best time of 4:26.35 to advance to the finals tonight. Sophomore Rob Miller qualified for the consolation finals with a lifetime-best time of 4:27.06, while redshirt freshman Chris Ewald tallied a personal-best time of 4:27.15 to qualify for the consolation finals. Rounding out competitors in the consolation finals for Tech is freshman Noah Copeland, finished with a personal-record time of 4:30.61.
Junior Ryan Bishop posted a season-best and NCAA `B’ cut time of 1:49.29 to advance to the championship finals tonight in the 200 individual medley. Freshman Mauricio Sousa tallied a time of 1:53.49 to qualify for the bonus finals.
Senior Teemu Kettunen clocked a lifetime-best time of 20.45 in the 50 free to qualify for the consolation finals later tonight. Making the bonus finals for Tech in the 50 free was junior Ofer Finkler, finishing the prelims with a lifetime-best time of 20.85.
The finals of the 500 free, 200 IM and 50 free will be competed tonight, beginning at 7 p.m. The entire meet can be followed at Live Stats.
