The Jackets Prepare to Host Tennessee on Saturday Night

• Georgia Tech hosts a second-straight marquee non-conference matchup to open
the 2026 season when it welcomes No. 20/18 Tennessee to Bobby Dodd Stadium
for the first time in 40 years.

• Georgia Tech is taking on Tennessee after opening the season with a nail-biting
one-point loss to Colorado. The Yellow Jackets, whose non-conference schedule
also includes their regular-season finale against archrival Georgia, are one of only six
teams in the nation with 11 power-conference opponents on their 2026 schedule.

• Saturday's game marks the renewal of a rivalry that dates back more than a
century, as Georgia Tech and Tennessee were conference-mates in the Southern
Intercollegiate Athletic Association (1895-1920), Southern Conference (1921-1932)
and Southeastern Conference (1933-63) and maintained a nearly annual nonconference
series for more than two decades after Tech withdrew from the SEC.

• The series between the Yellow Jackets and Volunteers began in 1902 and the
teams have met 44 times, including all but seven years between 1946-87. However,
the Jackets and Vols have played just once since 1987 (a double-overtime thriller
in the 2017 Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game at Mercedes-Benz Stadium), and Saturday's
matchup is the first at Bobby Dodd Stadium since a 14-13 Tech win in 1986.

• Georgia Tech and Tennessee are both among college football's all-time winningest
programs, as the Vols' 884 all-time wins are 11th in NCAA Division I FBS history,
while the Yellow Jackets' 772 victories rank 20th.

• One of the highlights of Tech's opener versus Colorado was the play of its defense
under first-year coordinator Jason Semore. Colorado's 14 points matched the
third-fewest that Georgia Tech has surrendered against a power-conference opponent
since the beginning of the 2018 season.
