THE FLATS – Georgia Tech football’s 2027 game at Tennessee has been moved to college football’s new Week 1, with the Yellow Jackets and Volunteers now set to play in both teams’ season opener on Saturday, Aug. 28, 2027 at Neyland Stadium in Knoxville, Tenn.
With the move, it is expected that the game will be prominently featured in ESPN networks’ college football lineup on the new Week 1.
Last month, the NCAA Division I FBS Oversight Committee approved legislation to move the standard start of the college football season up one week, to what was previously known as “Week 0,” beginning in 2027. Next season’s Georgia Tech-Tennessee matchup was originally scheduled to be played on Sept. 11, 2027.
As previously announced, Georgia Tech’s 2027 non-conference schedule also includes home games versus Hampton (date TBD) and archrival Georgia (Nov. 27). The Yellow Jackets will also play a nine-game Atlantic Coast Conference schedule which includes home dates versus Cal, Pitt, Virginia and Virginia Tech and away games against Boston College, Florida State, Miami (Fla.), SMU and Wake Forest.
The 2027 season will be Georgia Tech’s first in a newly renovated Bobby Dodd Stadium at Hyundai Field. The renovation, which will begin immediately following the conclusion of the 2026 season and be completed in time for the 2027 home opener, features the addition of 12,500 chairback seats, new handrails and wider aisles in designated sections and a new state-of-the-art videoboard and sound system. The renovation also includes substantial renovations to the stadium’s premium areas, including remodeled suites, construction of a new Founders Club on the west side of the stadium and an overhaul of East Club seating and indoor spaces, including the addition of a new VIP Members Club.
